What kind of snake is this?

aaroneugene Jan 07, 2012 08:12 PM

I caught a snake today but I'm having different thoughts on the type? I don't want to handle it much not knowing exactly what it is. I'm guessing a sort of rat/corn snake? but I want to be positive before going any further about housing and handling.

The state where it was caught might help. Is the head narrow or really wide?

I am in Florida.
I have found my answer though.
It is a Florida Banded Water snake.

Yes, that is indeed a Florida Banded Water snake (Nerodia fasciata pictiventris).
