Every 3 or 4 weeks, a bath!

norristhenut Jan 12, 2012 06:04 PM

Every 3 or 4 weeks I wake up the turtles for a bath, a drink and a soak. The adult turtles have a soak and go
back to bed but the 5 little ones 1 who is 2 years old and 1 who is 1 year old and the three babies 5 months old
now this is a different story. The bigger two swim around or soak but the babies look for places to get out
of the deep water preferably on the backs of their older siblings. Here are three photos of the babies riding on
the backs of the older ones and a photo of all 5 in their sphagnum moss living quarters which I keep moist for
the winter months. Their back to sleep for another few weeks.

Those looks very nice!

Are you breeding them to sell or they breed on their own? Haha! These things breed like crazy if you set them up right. Anyway do yours eat veggies? All of mine eat veggies, except the newest one I got. I think in time she'll come around to accepting veggies. Right now she is only eating mealworms and redwrigglers... What do you feed yours?

For the most part they don't eat anything over the winter, they
get a drink and a soak and go back to sleep for a few weeks. Last
year 1 turtle didn't eat from the first of september till the first of March,
7 months! the others ate a few maggots off and on. During the summer they eat worms, fruit and leafy greens.

What are the temperatures where you are keeping them for the Winter? I've got 5 hatchlings and one 1 yr. old doing the same thing in the vivarium. I do keep a small heat emitter on for them.

I keep their enclosure about 65 and very moist, I spray mist
every other day or so. If they wake up I soak them in water for about 15 to 20 minutes, offer food which they don't take and
put them back to bed. About the middle of March they will start eating,
