End of Ornate Monitor Tail Broke off

shottz Jan 13, 2012 09:40 PM

I got a quick question about the ends of monitor tail. I weekly soak mind and the humidity is right but it seemed he didn't shed the end of his tail and it got hard and the end just broke off. It is only about 1/4 inch that fell off but is this going to hinder his tail to being a nub or will it grow back to a point?

It's not about weekly soaks or ambient air humidity. It's about areas within the enclosure that hold consistent levels of humidity, areas that the lizard can rely on, and settle into for extended time periods of its own choosing -- not yours. Deep substrates, proper hides, and, uh... deep substrates. Deep substrate seems to be a recurring theme w/ the proper keeping of these lizards, huh?

They will dig down deep, to where it is cool and moist, and stay there for hours at a time. Sometimes they'll wanna be warm and moist. Want to step up your game, and be uber smart? Offer it both choices. :O

By the way, varanids do not regenerate body parts. Do some more research.

Good luck to you and your lizard.
