Big Toes Bleeding?

chiplatham Jan 21, 2012 02:20 PM

I have a new young dragon and both of his long toes look like they have bled at the tip...same toe on both sides.

I did find a couple of crickets that got under his carpet floor and were there at least overnight, if not a few days.

Could this be bites from the crickets? It seems off they would bite the same toe on both sides.

Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

only a couple ideas come to mind, he has unshed skin stuck on his toes which is irritating him. Or the bites are irritating. I suggest a soak in luke warm water deep enough to cover his feet at least but a bit deeper to armpits wouldn't hurt. Check for mites as well as these can cause irritation though I would not expect the toes being the likely area for mites to be.

A betadine soak will help with any infection in the bites, but topical antibiotic ointment will help too. Also, move him to a simple and easy to clean substrate like papertowels. Make sure uneaten crickets are removed from the cage after each meal.

Over grown toe nails could be causing issues too.

thanks for the suggestions. i think it may be unshed skin. i have bathed him a couple times the past few days and put neosporin on the toes and they look good now and he doesn't seem to be biting them anymore.
