Python ban bypass...

Arachnobaron Jan 21, 2012 10:33 PM

Now, we all know that the Burmese Python has been added to the ban. However, I find it fare to say that excludes the Indian Rock Python.
The Burmese Python, scientifically, is classified as Python molurus bivittatus. Yes, it's a subspecies of the Indian Python, but it isn't the actual, nominate Indian Rock Python, Python molurus molurus. So even if the burm is banned, isn't it technically legal to own Indian Rock Pythons, which are (almost) the same thing, and if so, we should make them the replacement in the pet trade and hopefully they won't turn up in the Everglades.
I say start importing them and get them breeding in captivity so we can get all those cool morphs back in place. AND, let's hope no cheaters out there mix burm into their genes...

one problem with your scenario,
indian pythons are US endangered species and you have not been able to ship them across state lines or import them for 20 years.
that is why they are less common in the US.
you can still own and breed berms so they will always be available. you just cannot ship them across state line like all esa animals. does anyone know the details about the law yet will you be able to ship with a permit like the esa? you should still be able to move to another state and take your personal pet with you and there will probobly be loopholes in the law just like the esa were you can buy one at a herp show and transport it back to your state as long as you did not go to the show specificaly to buy it.
it sucks and it will affect the value but anyone who wants a berm will still be able to get one until your state or local gov outlaws them like florida does.
