Baby Color Change Question

groundskeeper24 Jan 23, 2012 01:18 AM

I'm a relatively new GTP keeper. I bought my little guy/gal in mid April from a local biology teacher. It's been fun and rewarding so far.

My question pertains to the color change. My python is bright yellow with small rusty spotting. He was hatched in March. I noticed some green markings on the snake's face today when I was doing a routine cleaning/misting. From what I've read, it's about time for the colors to start changing. Does the change tend to begin anywhere on the snake's body? I didn't notice any other green on the body.

As far as behavior, the snake is doing terrific. It sleeps all day and is super-aggressive and active at night. A real Jekyll and Hyde. It always eats readily and sheds in one piece. There's almost always caudal luring going on after dark.

I'm probably being paraniod-overly curious, but I want to know if this is normal or something I should worry about.

Thanks.

Completely normal. I have seen several start in the face. Check on it daily if you are interested in watching the progression as some can change quickly once it starts. As in a matter of a few days, where as others can do it slowly over the course of several weeks, and even months.

i am also new to gtp . don't know anything about the color changes. i have heard, at a repticon that it takes a year for the change to start. might be BS. mine is young also. what temps and humidity are you keeping yours at? are you using a fogger? i mist daily . not sure if it is enough.
