You stated the europeans use high heat and retes stacks before I did, Sorry to burst your bubble, thats not so.

I went to Germany and saw nothing like that, and they came here. They actually flew me to Germany to give a talk.

One thing that makes varanids different is, you the keeper do Not have to do anything to get a female to cycle. Keep them the same way you raise them and they will automatically cycle and lay eggs.

If they don't, then theres something the matter with your/my support.

The more you talk, the more it sounds like you have not kept up with varanids much. Cheers

Good for you Frank.
Thanks for the input. You are the best.

FR Jan 23, 2012 06:59 PM

Back to you man, best wishes

Gregg_M_Madden Jan 23, 2012 07:45 PM

I am going to be the big man here Frank. I am sorry for breaking your chops. Honestly, I did not like how you gave me crap in our very first conversation. I very much respect what you do with your varanids but I did not appreciate the way you went about getting your point across to me. So if it even matters to you I sincerely appologize.

I am not as clueless as you might think and I have a bit more experience than others you have bashed around this forum. I speak from my personal experiences and not guesses. While some things like nest boxes have not worked well for you, they have worked well for me.

Anyway, even though it may be entertaining to some people, I am ready to get past all this nonsence and stop acting like two kids in a school yard if you are.

Gregg_M_Madden Jan 23, 2012 07:52 PM

By the way, Nice photo Frank. Crotalus lepidus klauberi?

FR Jan 23, 2012 10:28 PM

Hi Gregg, heres the point, you refuse to carry on a conversation. I ask questions and you ignore them and go on and on about assuming this and that.

There is not need to assume if you would only answer the questions.

If you actually answered the questions, then we could actually get somewhere with the discussion.

The whole Next box vs, whole cage nesting question can be answered if you would repond and post your results.

You said, While some things like nest boxes have not worked well for you, they have worked well for me.

That is a meaningless statement you made up. My results with nest boxes most likely matches yours, but are not equal to whole cage nesting.

With whole cage nesting, we have had the same animals you(john) work with, lay eggs successfully that hatch, every two weeks, for nearly three months. have you see that with nest boxes. If not, they are not equal to or as good. Do you see what I mean.

You are stuck in a work or don't work paradign. Where I am in a range of what works, you know, works, works better, even better then that, and whats superior.

Also whole cage nesting works in a far wider range of conditions. Nest boxes, have to be exactly right or they don't work.

So with that last paragraph in mind, When I give advice to newbies, I recomend a method with the broadest range of success. Not a method where the newbie has to already be experienced and get it exactly right.

now if I have a hypo or albino varanid, I would not use the method that had the highest chance of failure. I would use that has the greatest percentage of success. And thats what I told you.

If you actually had your own reproductive experience, you would know that you can fail using any method. So its more about hedging your bets.

By the way you say things, it appears like you really do not have THIS Type of experience. So without any other proof, thats all I/we have to go by.

Then you come up with MONITORS DO NOT HAVE TO REPRODUCE thing, which we have heard a million times by those that fail.

I have said it like this. If you kept your dog or cat in such conditions that it physically could not reproduce, you would be arrested. Well thats what most people do with there monitors.

Again, its my experience and many others that you do not have to do anything other then have healthy monitors. If they are healthy, they will lay eggs. If they are not, they will not.

of course if you only kept males, then there is not way to gauge that.

You keep saying you have experience, in this post, you said you have more then we think. Well sir, you do not act like you do. And you have not posted any pics of this success. So as far as we know, you have no successful experience.

So please prove me wrong. I love to be wrong. Thanks

That just shows his character. Someone does the right thing and publicly says they are sorry and he still goes into his rants.

FR Jan 24, 2012 05:05 PM

Its not a rant, and its not about being a bigger man or whatever.

The question was nest boxes vs. A whole cage nesting or more choice nesting. Thats the whole thread.

that you want it to be about something other then that is not what this forum is for.

The actual substance of these threads should be MONITORS, not what I think of you or you think of me.

Gregg, I do not know you, and you do not know me. But we do have a common interest and thats varanids. So why not discuss our common interest.

I ask you to report your results, that way, we can actually judge what method is more suitable or more suitable over different conditions, etc etc.

Gregg, its you that wants to make it about personalities or what folks think of you.

I say, if you would just carry one with the discussion, someone will benefit from our discussion, even if its not you or I.

Which by the way, is the reason for these forums. To share our experiences. Which also means to compare our results.

That way, folks can pick whats better for them. Best wishes

Gregg_M_Madden Jan 24, 2012 05:19 PM

I was trying to clear the slate so we can have a nice normal conversation about what we are both very interested in without insults or hard feelings. Thats all Frank.

FR Jan 24, 2012 10:59 PM

The slates clean, I was never concerned with the slate. Please Gregg, why would I care about the Slate?

No offense, if you want the slate to get in the way, then I am sorry.

As you should know, for me its not about the slate. i could careless what others want to think of me, particularly, when they do not know me.

I am a little old fashioned and do not use the internet in lew of real friends, at least not yet. Well it can happen but its rare.

For instance, Mike and Mary on our forum are very dear to me and I have never met them. But then they never attacked me based on some preconcieved notion.

Anyway, how about talking about nesting issues and not worry about my or your feelings. After all, isn't the benefit what happens to the monitors and thats far more important that getting all butt hurt over nothing? Cheers

SIGH Frank, he said you were right. Tis a good thing. Take that and then start the nest box fight in another thread. Are you going to make me call that wife of yours and ask her to slap you for me?

Actually I don't think it reflects on his character in that way at all.

Frank is a high character guy, don't get confused by his thick head. He is the nicest guy in person, and will talk your ear off.

He just has little tact in print. But that's ok, at least you always know where you stand with him.

Hold your thumb and forefinger four inches apart. Now hold it up to your temple. That is how thick his skull is. His brain is filled with lots of good animal knowledge and theory, but there is so much in there it has squished out the "nuance" part, which oozed out his ears.

That is why his ears are so funny looking- nuance is apparently acidic.

I will be going to the NCAA wrestling finals in March again, its in St. Louis. Thats where the ears came from, funny looking, ha best wishes sir

Paradon Jan 26, 2012 02:35 PM

You should go Thailand... The best place to learn how to fight.

murrindindi Jan 26, 2012 03:01 PM

Paradon, are you suggesting Frank R. should still be boxing/wrestling??? Give him a break!!

Paradon Jan 26, 2012 05:21 PM

Yes, but not competing...just for the workout. Haha!

Paradon Jan 26, 2012 05:33 PM

Yes, to learn muay chaiya...

Paradon Jan 27, 2012 05:55 AM

It'll be good for him...spending some time in Thailand. You know, they say it can even make a hard man soft.

wldktrptls Jan 27, 2012 06:44 AM

i imagine he could still give it a go....them lizard fellas out in the desert got that whole "crazed by the sun" thing going for 'em.....

Paradon Jan 27, 2012 07:01 AM

You know, I'm not that bad of a boxer myself. I know a couple moves that will take your head off.

FR Jan 27, 2012 10:04 AM

See Paradon, your at it again, boxing is not about taking heads off. Its an art, the sweet science of boxing.

Your just out to stir the pot, again talking about things you have no knowledge of. Good on ya

Also My boxing career was based on need, I grew up in Watts, I have to fight, so I learned how. You know what watts is don't you, look it up.

Paradon Jan 29, 2012 01:00 AM

I'm not out to stir any pot, Frank! [laugh] I do know a bit of Muay Thai.
