Python ban will soon be monitor ban

This will only be the start of the crack down on reptiles. They will start chipping away at groups instead of the hobby as a whole. Each time they will take away more and more supporters. A permit system for large snakes and lizards could be benefical but an all out ban is wrong. If they get this bill rolling with no one fighting it then they will move onto the next group. I gurantee monitors as a whole is at the top of the list.
We need to stick together or we be owning goldfish only in the near future if we are lucky.
21,000 votes are still needed to over turn the sneaky law. It only takes a few minutes. I know this doesn't effect the monitor community yet but get ready.

I respect the right for people to do whatever they want. that's what this country is all about. It is one of the principal that Americans cherish the most. Just because some irresponsible owners did something wrong does not mean we have to prohibit everyone from keeping them. Just like firearms. Is it really the firearms falt or someone just using it inappropreately...not following safty guidelines?

In fact, the founding fathers would probably oppose this law. The founding fathers clearly stated that the role of government is very small. Societal and individual issues should be left up to the people and society to solve. The government has no wisdom and the knowlege of everything to solve issues like this. Maybe we should hire doctors to do construction work and see how that goes. Haha! You don't want your doctors to do your work, so why let the government decide what you should do in your spare time.

In fact, the government is ignorant! that's why the founding fathers did not like the idea of government interfering in people's private affair.

If I overstepped my bound and being nosey trying to help my neighbors' with personal problems when they did not ask for, I'd probably be accused of not only being nosey and overstepped my bound, but also ignorant and dont know all the fact and trying to fix the problem I don't even understand. If you don't trust a stranger with your personal affairs and money, why should you trust the government in these matters.

Machines aren't evil and don't hurt people. I think people that use them are. Guns don't kill! Sociopaths and careless people do! They should punish these people more severely.

We do not and never did have the "right" to keep wild animals as pets. That is a privilege. One that we, ourselves (as a community) are doing a fine job screwing up.

I bet anything varanids are next on the list after venomous reptiles. The sad thing is, these laws will go through because we as a community are the minority and unorganized or in the very early stages of becoming organized. Might be too little too late though.

Good point Greg,
We need to unite as a group of they will pick us apart. I would say even the minor screw ups we have done do not touch the effects of man.
If it was for environmental reasons then they wouldn't have a small season for burmese pythons to be collected in. They would stop building houses shopping centers and fragmenting whats left of the natural habitat. Main reason "invasive" species can make an impact is because we have already killed off (reduced to low numbers) the animals that would contend for that niche. The states/government purposely introduced cane toads, hogs, sport fish etc years ago wish have a more devasting effect but not hears of that.
Deaths by reptiles is extremely low and probably isn't even in the top 20 for deaths/injuries to people by animals.
Its nothing more then politics as usual because someone has a "hard on" for reptiles.
Probably start going after guns in the same manner. They go for assualt (aks, ARs),then maybe some pistols, trim down on the shotties, etc. Just big govenrment trying to flex it muscle and be sneaky at the same time.

Some of these people wants to give rights to chickens and farm animals which already destroyed California farming industry.
