Sistrurus miliarius feeding help!

SnakeSmith912 Jan 29, 2012 03:44 PM

I have a new pair (1.1.0) of sub adult Sistrurus miliarius which I have had for 5 weeks. At this point I have been unable to get them to accept food or even strike at food. I'll try and keep this short:

- I was told they are CB and told that they ate pinkies two weeks before I received them (not sure i believe either of these statements at this point)
- I have tried live and F/T tease feeding pinkies
- I've tried scenting Pinkies with anoles and even tried offering small anoles
- I've tried split-braining pinkies and leaving in small deli cup overnight
- I've tried leaving small pinkies in their cage overnight
- They are on aspen with lots of hiding spots, a large shallow water dish, and appropriate temperatures.

I know they can go a while without food, but at this point they are beginning to look thin.

Any advice would be very appreciated!

Hey Im not sure what other techniques you could try...And this froum isnt gonna be of much help unfortunately...wish it were a little more active. Id try to contact who you got them from and ask wth worked for them. If you are down near florida come spring id give you some neonates....anyhow goodluck....

It's a little after the fact, but I'd put them in hibernation ASAP. After I cool down they should resume feeding.

LIVE pinks....or go with cricket frogs (risky in terms of possible parasite load but tend to be the ideal starter food in terms of success). Good luck!
