Help with CornSnake

lilfatlata Jan 29, 2012 04:45 PM

Hello everyone.

I've had my Corn Snake now since about July or August. It's about 4.5 feet long and lately it's been very very active. It won't eat and from the looks of it's skin it doesn't appear to be getting ready to shed.

I live in Florida where the weather is always nice. I've read that breeding season doesn't start till about March. I'm not 100% sure on the sex but when I hold the Corn Snake, I don't see any spurs near it's rear.

I've attempted to feed it 3 weeks in a row; ranging from a thawed mouse, small rat and live mouse (just today). The snake struck it immediately as if it were ready to eat but after the kill it went back to slithering around it's ViV. Nothing has changed what so ever...

Can anyone give advise as to why it's so active and won't eat it's kill.

Many snakes stop eating in the winter. Also, it sounds like your snake is looking to mate. Just be patient, it will come around in a few weeks.

Thank you for the information...

I don't believe corn snakes have spurs but I'm not an expert. I do think yours in a male from the sound of it. I've had my male act very restless in the past an will not eat either this time of year. I also have a male jungle carpet python (he does have spurs) that has been restless an hasn't eaten in couple months now.

You'd be correct. Corn snakes do not have spurs.

Yeah, when I start noticing any spurs on my cornsnakes, I can be pretty certain they are hybrids..HAHA!!..

Thank you everyone for the information. I assumed that all male snakes have spurs.
