Ceramic heater question...

oneb470 Feb 01, 2012 01:26 PM

I have a 30 gallon set-up for a baby corn snake--with a ZooMed heating pad on the exterior bottom. My house is still a bit too cold (New England) to attain the correct temp. I also have a leftover 150w ceramic heating unit, which is a bit overboard for this set-up. Has anyone ever tried to put a ceramic heater on a dimming switch--would this work? I will go out and buy a lower wattage if I have to.

I'd get a red or "night light" bulb. 25 or 40 watts should be enough (you'll need to use a thermometer to make sure you get a hot spot in the mid to upper 80s). Cermaic heaters are insanely hot and only useful for very large cages.
