sycotickid Feb 14, 2012 01:18 PM

ok heres the plan ive designed a brand new cage for my onate monitor it will be a little small for now until my reptile house permits go through and im able to build a bigg cage but for now this will be awesome. i just got a 110 gallon black pond from lowes i am going to build a platform to sink the pond into ive designed a filter which i think will be epic its pretty much a smaller version of a pool filter all out of pvc pipe it will have about a foot of sand and six inches of diatomaceous earth food grade to filter out even urine in the water then with the remaining portion of the cage will be about 2-3 foot of soil ill take pictures as i go but i have to go under my room and brace the floor because water and dirt are so heavy ill be sure to keep everyone posted and pictures as i go am i missing anything please criticize as necessary

Hi again,
can you tell me the overall size of the enclosure L W H?
I kept an Ornate monitor for 14 years (he reached 230cm).

I remember moving about 15 cu feet of sand and soil in for my ackie, that had me tired real quick lol, I would die if I had to move soil in for a ornate cage. But I'm sure it will all be appreciated by your monitor. How big is he?

the overall cage will be 4x10x7.5 due to the ceiling it will have a heated pond a three bulb basking bar plenty of hides about a 5x4x3 digging area and i have a 8 inch a/c enclosed fan that im going to hook to a dimmer switch so i can control air flow and circulation i remember you telling me about humidity so all sides will be enclosed and i have a humidifier which will be piped in via pvc which i can turn on and off to control exact humidity

hes about 3 foot long but his tail was chomped off by a dog before i adopted him its estimated by another member that it was like six inches missing

That sounds like a great cage, good luck with everything.
