Mali uro sick

Charphy1 Feb 17, 2012 08:55 PM

I came home on Thursday and my uro had a lot of discharge from his nose. Took him to a emergency vet and they said he probably has a respiratory infection. They gave him a shot of baytril and some liquid that I'm suppose to give him once a day for 10 days...

Today is friday and he is no better. I know it's only been one day but he looks so sick. He has a lot of discharge from nose and when he opens his mouth he has a lot of mucus in there.

Has this opened to anyone. Should I take him to a different vet. I have increased his temperature and his humity is at 13.

Thank you for your help

I would defiantly look at taking her to the vet. What are the temps? And what are you using to measure them?

He has been to two vets now. One emergency and a reptile vet. They have listened to his lungs sound good. Did a blood test and it showed dehydration and a mild case of kidney failure. They have told me to keep him on the baytril for 25 days.

He is around 13 years old and I'm not sure if this is his lifespan. It is so sad to see him so sick.

His home is about 1-1/2 foot tall by 4 feet long aquarium. The basking area is around 125 and the cooler side is around 95 (right now because of his illness) otherwise it's around 85. The hydrometer reads 10 and 15 in the cooler side.

The vet has suggested be give him two soaks a week for the dehydration. Also one gave me a Flukers repta boost insectivore and the other told me to use Oxbow Critical care. After two weeks of internet search I've been using the Critical care.

Right now I'm able to get him medication down and about 1/2 of a small syringe of baby food with the critical care mixed with pedialyte. I'm still putting in his normal food with hopes he will eat it.

Any help would be appreciated.
