Rat-a-thon Day#3

eric561 Feb 18, 2012 04:19 AM

I was taking some photos the other day so I figured I would participate in the rat a thon activities. Here is a pic of a holdback male Everglades Rat Snake I produced last year. Het hypomelanistic. Looking better and better every shed.

Thanks for the compliment Toby. I am happy to be working with this species again. I took a break from the reptile hobby about 11 years ago and got rid of my entire collection with the exception of a pair of prized glades rats. I had a friend keeping them for me at his place since my work schedule didn't permit me to care for them. Then one day he tells me the female escaped.

After approx 10 years of not having a female for that lone male I finally got some female hypos up to size last year. The photo I posted previously is one of the babies from those breedings.

Here is a photo of the male/sire from a few years ago. He is an old guy that I raised from hatchling size.

Thanks Randy...much appreciated.

He is only six months old so he will get even better looking. I have a couple of female hypos that I plan to breed him to when he gets up to size. Since he is het hypo I should produce approx 50% hypos from those breedings. The hypos almost look like T positive albinos as babies so I should be able to tell them apart.

Here is a picture of the hypo dam and clutch of eggs he hatched from.

John, If the diones are mature enough (pretty sure they are) they will definately go.

The situla should too IMO - which BTW, I have a thought about which is related to what I am working on for the green rats. I'll send you an email later...
