Rat-a-Thon day seven

53kw Feb 22, 2012 11:31 AM

Everglades ratsnakes, wild strain. The male (in front in the photo--he was mate-guarding the day I took the shot--which explains why he's giving me the stink eye) is over five feet long and eats half-grown rats. The female is pushing five feet and also eats half-grown rats. I bred them in 2011 for the first time and their babies were predictably fabulous--a six-month old holdback hatchling is shown. Really vivid Everglades ratsnakes can match the beauty of any of the world's wildlife, IMO.
