Infected Corns

RSedgwick Feb 29, 2012 08:21 AM

I bought a nice pair of multi het normal baby corns at a show last summer in Raleigh NC. The breeder had a lot of corns. While they were in quarnentine, one of them expelled a pile of round worms into it's water bowl. I treated both animal for the pests and they are doing great. Just wondering how big of a problem this is getting to be.

I've not had that happen. I've seen Carrion maggots on expelled food, if I don't catch it right away.

If treated properly they should be fine. Keep an eye on them and make sure they don't start regurgitating or eating but still losing weight

I was wondering who big a problem it was getting to be in general. If one of the baby snakes I picked up had round worms, it seems likely this guy entire collection is infected. As I recall all he was selling was corns. I have no concerns for my snakes, as I had them in quarentine, detected the pests, and treated them.

in general I don't think it's a problem....I've never had a snake with them, and many of the private keepers/breeders I know have been parasite free as well. I think it's just people with poor husbandry.
