Surgery or Euthanize

ginger35 Mar 01, 2012 02:43 PM

Two days ago, I discovered that my poor beardie Anubis (he's almost 7) was very sick. His beard was black and his coloring was off (more yellow and lighter than usual). He showed signs of dehydration as well. Just the day before he appeared fine.

We rushed him to the vet and she felt something that she suspected was a tumor on or around his liver. An X-ray has confirmed a mass and blood work is inconclusive.

So I'm faced with a very difficult decision: Do I go ahead and put him through what may be a long recovery (or worse)? Or do I opt for euthanasia? The cost of the surgery and follow-up adds another $834 to what we have already paid for diagnosis and hospitalization.

My heart is broken.

Sorry to hear about your dragon. The mass could be anything but surgery can be hard on a dragon who's 7 years old. Its really up to you if you want to risk it and maybe get a few more years out of a beloved pet or to say goodbyes now and euthanize.

Not an easy decision and something you will need to figure out yourself.
