Some old pics of my big old Chinese Beauty pair, Godzilla and Calendar Girl...

These guys really liked their gallon water jugs - I think as much for security as for just being in the water. I had to discontinue using the gallon jugs for them and go to heavy ceramic bowls once they got up to a certain size / strength (when Godzilla got to be about nine years old, I think) because they would just throw them around - and it quickly got old having to change the entire cage's substrate day after day - and expensive.

Godzilla in the jug - about 7 years old.

Godzilla at about 8 years.

Calendar Girl hanging out in her jug.

Godzilla and Calendar Girl mating in water jug - 2008.

CG with her 2007 clutch.

Thanks Randy! I like them a lot (fingers crossed that I'll have pics of a 2012 mating, egg-laying, and hatching!) - and I've never grown tired of looking at the beauties, morphs and normals alike. I sometimes wish they were smaller, but their big size does add to their appeal somehow...

That's very interesting water jug behavior, and those are some very cool snakes!

Thanks Tim!

I got the idea for the gallon jugs for water containers from Terry Cox, who I got the beauty snakes from. Terry keeps most of his snakes in glass tanks with tall water jugs, which many species seem to enjoy.

I see. I did a little field herping with Terry "back in the day" in the Carolinas. It's nice to see that not everybody uses a "cook book recipe" for keeping snakes!

That's interesting to know, Tim. Terry is a very intelligent guy who puts a lot of thought into what he does. I believe in trying diferent methods and using the ones which seem to work out best - for my snakes.
