Hi, first post here. anyways i've got a strange question. I was giving my 10 month old nile monitor his daily bath, when all of a sudden he rolled out his hemipenes and pretty much kept it out for a long time, I was gettin scared cuz I was thinkin his hemipenes prolapsed or something, then all of a sudden lil white wisps came out like he ejaculated or something and then rolled it rolled right back up like it was nothing. Should I be worried? I doubt he's sexually mature cuz he is only 10 month's old and please correct me if I'm wrong but don't they reach maturity at like 2-3 years old? should I take him to the vet?

Hello Acid lizard,

First of all, welcome! Most of the monitor species can mature sexually and even reproduce at approximately half (or even before) of their adult size. By what I have been told and seen here, sexual maturity happens within a year to 18 months if the animals are given heat, food and other necessary provisions. Are you planning to mate him up? Best to You- Mike S

I really do wanna mate him, but is it unrealistic? I dont really see too much info on breeding em, but someday I wanna try, definitly not for a financial angle, but for fun, and if nothing else but to relieve the severe over-importation of wild-caught specimens. well, how should I start?

Hello Acid lizard,

Your start, when you do, would be to acquire a mate. How is you caging set up? Best to You- Mike S

well he's in a 48"Lx30"x30", thats divided in two levels, plenty of space to dig and hide, but as far as bask spots there is only one. ambient temp is 82, basking hovering in at about 135, humidity i try to keep at the high end of 70 by constant misting. I doubt its big enough for him and a female as of right now, so i'd prolly would have to build her her own enclosure until he's ready to move into his final enclosure Where would be the best place to find a female? know of any cbb niles? i'd rather pay a couple hundred for a cbb then import. I should post a want classified huh?
