Different clades of Eastern indigos

johnnic Mar 05, 2012 12:40 AM

University of Florida's preliminary studies show that an Atlantic clade and Gulf clade of Eastern indigos exist. Further data needs to be analyzed before this information can be assessed....

My comment: So... not only is the captive population of indigos in this hobby severely inbred, we've been mixing the two genetic clades indiscriminately. I think this would be analogous to the zonata agalmas. We had no idea that the "Martir" and the "Juarez" localities of agalmas were genetically different clades and we were creating "mutts" in captivity for the longest time. Boy, can't win here.
