so frustrating I could scream...

Why in the heck do people need to be so stubborn??

Every day someone posts on one forum or another about their exanthematicus that they "are taking great care of" in a fish tank, cobbled up box or some other improvised housing, and when they get told they need to set up a proper enclosure and what it entails, they either get all defensive or start making excuses.

Just today (the whole purpose of my ranting right now) a person sent me a PM wanting to know if it would be OK to make a plywood top for their fish tank, and when I said it's better than nothing, but would not be appropriate as a permanent solution, the "I don't have the money" excuses started flowing...

Bosc monitors are such rewarding captives and no one seems to really WANT to take proper care of them. (with a very few exceptions)

End of rant....

agreed, in my personal opinion, people should have a permit to have monitors, or any animal for that matter. a permit system would really weed out impulse buys

At least one guy is man enough to admit he's in over his head, I put a bunch of information in front of him, and then explained how my first Sav died, now he's offering his lizard to anyone who can prove they have a proper setup.

Perhaps because there is little information about keeping monitors in captivity. No books, no caresheets.

And conflicting information in forums, plus a lot of bad attitude from experienced keepers.

Im affraid these posts will continue to pop up every now and then but the newbies usually quit posting after a topic or two as they are driven away quite fast.

This is the only reliable one, out print as far as I know (doesn't mean one can't find it).

There is definitely no accessible information for those who start. Everything is very fragmented and there is a lot of conflicting stuff.

IMO.
