Ever have this happen?

snakemother Mar 24, 2012 06:42 PM

My gray-banded has a slow-growing lump near his vent. My vet took a sample via needle and says it isn't cell-based. He checked the hemipenes and said it's not an infection there. The vet believes it is an encased abcess and he's planned surgery to open it and clean it out (he says he will make as small an opening as possible). My vet is the one who treats the reptiles at the zoo in my town, and I believe he's very good, and I'm hoping he's right. But I'm very nervous, as I'm very attached to this snake (I've had him 13 years). I'm worried about him going under anesthesia. Anyone else have this happen to their snake?

We saw one last year despite the drought. There was definitely less reptile activity over all and alot of what we saw looked stressed.

Yes I have seen these several times, I had a vet advice me to just slit it clean it an put monkey blood on there for the infection. Much cheaper than surgery and has worked so far. One note if the infection is internal rather than just below the surface this won't work. I have found all but one caseive seen has been close to the surface, only one animal had it deep internally
