V. cumingi Breeding

JPLReptiles Mar 28, 2012 04:27 PM

You have no idea how excited I am to post about the progress of these animals. This past week all three animals have shown little interest in food. I figured out why when I caught the male with the larger female a few days ago. I wasn't able to confirm they were breeding as they had gone behind the stump in the enclosure and I could only view their tails. Once back there the female stopped moving and I could see the male was able to slip his tail under the females but that's all I could see. Today I was able to snap a picture (sorry for the quality, it was taken through the window of the enclosure which needs to be cleaned). I am now going crazy with anticipation! I still have a long way to go but atleast I am moving forward! I have not caught the male with the smaller female yet but she has also shown alot of interest in the nest box. I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I am! As far as I know this would be the first US Breeding of V. cumingi here in the states. Still a long way away from the first Captive Bred V. cumingi in the US.

I"m no pro but that looks like it might be the real thing. You'll find out in a couple weeks, Good luck with the wait. 3 weeks might as well be 3 years LOL. Really good luck.

Congrats man! You haven't had them for too long, have you? I've never come across a paper on breeding cumingi, so you have to record this for the whole community!

Best of luck!

I've had them since early Feb. I'm sure the fact that they are true c.b.b. animals has alot to do with it. The cumingi that come through indo are completely crazy compared to these guys. They don't give me any problems when I climb inside their enclosure. I've even been able to handle one of the girls to a point. They have been going at it all day and now into the night. Not sure I'll get much sleep tonight hahaha!!!
