preserving crickets

how do you can crickets? are they cooked? is there oil in them? anyone have a link for this? thanks

They are preserved in a few different ways, as far as I can tell. SOme are cooked, some are freeze dried. Both methods probably not all that easy to do at home without a pressure cooker or some means to ensure a totally sterile seal/process, otherwise they will just rot in the can.

I am sure if you google it you may come up with ways to preserve crickets. A simple way probably be to just freeze them, but this may must end up with a mushy mess when thawed.

i steamed them fast to kill them...then canned them using a boiled water method...the dragons eat them fine...i think the canned crickets they sell are different crickets from over seas..i'll keep trying to figure this out..also i think they put something on the crickets like oil or something....billy
