on the plant or in the soil? Miracle Gro is used on veggie gardens or a version of such. Did you wash the plants?

I used a potting soil that had it in it , last year i added it in the water when i watered the potted plant also . both last year he problems with shaking and scratching at his head . It kinda does look more like a neurological thing versus a ear problem like i thought it was . BUT ?? It does seem to coincide when i started giving him plants growing with MG and when i stopped . Both last year and now , NO I did not wash the leave i gave him from the Nasturtiums i starting growing indoors a month ago or the flowers and leave i gave him last year from both the Nasturtiums and hibiscus flower and leaves . In this video you can see me pick one right off the plant and feed him . at around minute 3,06 . I WAS giving him 3-4 a day . Dang i feel STUPID !!

Is he shaking and twitching? Might me a sign of metabolic bone disease. Do you use any multivitamin and calcium supplement?

Paradon Apr 03, 2012 05:46 PM

I've seen someone who never gave multivitamin and calcium supplements to his Cyclura and both were like yours. One died and the other (the bigger one) was OK.

i have also read somewhere that the head shaking is due to the water quaility offered to them.

i use distilled water for everything , his humidifier and his drinking water , which he never drinks out of. I do wash his food with tap water though .

I wouldn't use distilled water. Distilled water is void of minerals and can actually draw minerals from the body when it is consumed. Regular tap water is fine. I remember the threads months ago when you first brought up the issue of head shaking. As I mentioned the last time, I honestly think that your iguana has a neurological problem. If it was an infection that he had and it hasn’t gone away, by now he would be dead or extremely emaciated. You have all the conditions right for an iguana. I wouldn’t go out and spend another $700. Or more, especially on a CT scan. I don’t mean to be insensitive, but you are making your vet rich and nothing is being solved. If I were you, I would let nature take its course. You can buy 3 healthy iguanas with $700.

we have very hard water and strong smell of chlorine . Is that OK ?

RobertK Apr 06, 2012 09:33 PM

Its not so much the money , unless its incurable . I get very attached to my pets , I would spend another 700 "IF" he had a problem they could fix .

I will try tap bottled spring water for his food and drink . BUT need distilled for the humidifier or it will ruin it . There is so much mineral deposits that build up in it that you can not scrape it off . I already ruined one .Only took a few weeks .

I give mine multi vitamins one a week and calcuim at least every other day . what ever he got it seem to hurt him , I have seen it trigger by him just touching his nose on his food or the fist from the humidifier . I talked to David Blair for 30 minutes or so nd he had no clue why mine is doing this . He asked me everything about his diet and his environment and said i was doing everything thing just fine , BUT back off on the calcuim and only twice a week and make sure i use the stuff WITH D3 .twice a week , and since he's a picky eater feed him very other day .so he is hungry and he cleanx his plate and does not pick through it .

he worse tonight and in a lot of pain , when he shakes his head he just goes and lay down and some time hold his breath on and off . since this started again , in morning when he wakes up and his body is still some what cool he's better .
