BIG female Leioheterodon

gila91 Apr 07, 2012 12:04 PM

A friend came by and we took out my big female Leioheterodon madagascariensis to take a couple of pictures. I don't think these pictures really do her justice, but she is a solid 6 feet and bulky. Got 14 eggs out of her last year and she has grown quite a bit since then so I am interested to see if her increased size affects her clutch size.

I agree she's a beast! Do they require anything different then most colubrids to breed?

I posted some information at the following address here when I bred them last year.

For the most part no, nothing special. Cooling in the winter (low 60's F), followed by introductions. The big difference was that they breed later in the year than most colubrids I am used to. My pair didn't seem to have any interest in each other until July.

Thank you! I have a good sized pair which I hope will produce this year. They were cooled with all my other colubrids, and they both have great appetites.
