Olive eggs! First time!

Jaykis Apr 15, 2012 12:32 PM

Actually, a first for both her and me. 7 good, 8 slugs. She's a bit under 8'so I need to put a lttle size on her for next years. She only eats f/t hamsters, which is a pain. Anyway, eggs are in the incubator so wish me luck! Laid last night, already feeding again.

Sweet, I have always wanted to keep olives. Very cool snakes. Now, clean that cage up!

Yeah, she had been under the paper AND in her hide box. Never noticed the mess. Plus, she had gotten super aggressive since being gravid.

Did she show any visual signs as in muscular contractions before you removed the eggs?

Hi Kelly! We have a couple mutual friends that have bred Olives, I believe. As to this clutch, no attempt by the female was made to shiver. Usually, when one of my snakes has laid, shivering tells me it's happened. In this case, the shape of the coils was the givaway that she had laid.

Thanks much, I appreciate the info. There isn't much at all out there on maternal behavior with this species so I was very interested in your observations. Thanks again,

Kelly

Kelly, I did not expect her to roll on her side like aspidites do. I think you know Butch....he's bred tons of them but I think he pulls them for incubation, anyway. I'm not sure if he's seen twitching after eggs have been removed like other pythons do.
