Question about coxi eggs

krfun Apr 19, 2012 06:37 PM

This is my first time breeding coxi and I got an egg 4/12, 4/13, 4/16, 4/17 and one this morning and then again this afternoon.

I have only bred cornsnakes before and always get the eggs all the same day.

Just wondering if this is normal for the coxi.

Thanks

It's not anything coxi are specifically known for in my experience. Mine have generally laid within a 24 hour period. I have had one lay a bad egg or two and then lay the rest of the eggs which were good, 3 or 4 days later. The good ones were laid the same day though.
I have had different species lay their eggs like your talking about, over a few days time but most or all of them were bad or went bad. The same female will usually lay a perfect clutch the next time though.

Thanks Randy.

The first egg looked good but got bent over on itself most likely from the mom crawling over it. I did try to straighten it out and put it in the incubator anyway because I thought that might be the only egg I get.

The last four eggs all look good and I did remove that first egg because it was looking bad.

Maybe she laid this way because its her first time.

Do your coxi routinely double clutch?

RandyWhittington Apr 21, 2012 08:48 PM

Mine tend to triple clutch every year.
I generally don't even try to double clutch most of my snakes just because I don't need the extra babies but coxi are one of the species that are going to weather you want them to or not. I keep the adults together through most of the summer so the eggs will all be good since they are coming anyway.
