Tough time coming out of brumation

Kalira Apr 21, 2012 08:34 PM

I have an adult Bearded Dragon that went down for the winter and just came back out of it( she went up and down and came in and out several times before she stay up). I can't for the life of me get her to eat. Temps are good cool and basking side. I had a fecal done the vet said there was a small but normal amount of parasites, nothing he would treat. I've given her warm baths, changed up variety on veggies and fruits, tried meal, wax, giant and super worms, as well as the normal fare of crickets and grasshoppers. I have a vet appointment scheduled for next week, but I was wondering if anyone had some advice in the mean time. Also, I have no reason to believe she is egg bound as she has lost weight and I don't feel anything protruding in her belly what so ever. Thanks for any help I can get. I'm worried sick.

Try giving her some pedialyte and some probiotic...see if that helps. sometimes when they just came out of brumation they loose a lot of water through respiaration adn probably electrolyte, too, and if it got too cool, it may have killed off the gutflora in her gut. You can use pedialyte for babies and probiotic for humans or reptiles (I think either will work). I'm just guessing here so don't believe everything I tell you. I'm not that much of an expert, so I think youi need to take him to a good second vet that is experienced with herps for a second opinion.

Thanks, that seems to be the common consensus about restarting her gut. I started her on it yesterday and she has gained two grams so far. I just hope she starts eating on her own again before I even have to go to my appointment.

Thanks again for your input.
