What kind of boa??

SanadaOkita May 12, 2012 01:13 AM

Was droped off at my door step with a hogg island who has some very bad kinks and is thin but otherwise heathly seeming .. This one he said was a salmon het albino, is this a salmon?? I've only delt with normal phased boas but every one I've seen called salmon looked alot more like a hypo col. He is really dark, has some nice red and pink to him that you cant see in this photo. He is abit under weight but otherwise seems heathly, going to try and feed in a few days and I will go from there on whats up with him. I'am currently seeking low cost vet or rescue for the hogg as I'm worried about him. I will update everyone on both of the animals asap. Please let me know what local you think this boa may be? And is he really a salmon??/

The coined term "salmon" is indeed a form of hypomelanism. In boas this gene is co-dominant. It's tough to really tell from the not so great low-light photo there, but if it is a salmon boa, it is a lower expression than many others out there in the hobby. Most tend to be far "cleaner" regarding the dark pigment (melanin). You would be much better off posting some brighter, clearer photos of it over on the "boa" forum, as those folks work with those and countless other boa morphs on a very daily basis.

I hope the Hog Island boa fairs well too.

Anyway, here's the link........

I will deff post the ones photo in better lighting tonight in the boa forum. Thank you

You are very welcome. Best of luck with the Hog Island getting better. Yeah, better pics on the boa forum should give you some decent answers regarding the other one you have. Hypos can vary QUITE a bit, so it's important to try and capture the true coloration and tones if at all possible..

cheers, ~Doug
