I haven't seen captive bred animals in many years, babies on the market are imported. There is a very short window of availability on them, typically Fall or early Winter.

From everything I have read, the export ban in Tanzania spells the end of young V. ionidesi imports unless they occasionally come in from another country. The only ones I have seen are near yearlngs and start @ $600.
If anyone has more information I will stand corrected.
The wildlife export ban in Tanzania (pending investigation) is the end of the importation of the unofficial subspecies "ionides" of Varanus albigularis. The "ionides blackthroat" come from west Tanzania and aren't exported to the USA from any of the other African countries.
And it's a good thing, for the monitors.
