Where are all these puppy dog tame savs?

SPJ01 May 21, 2012 12:04 PM

I don't get it. My sav is used to me cleaning the cage, runs to me for food, lets me gently move him out of the way, but as soon as I try to pick him up....BAM! tail whip, hissing, biting......
He will run up to get food and run over to the door when I enter the room but he WILL NOT allow me to try and pick him up. How do these people get these puppy dog tame savs? At the rate this one is growing, tripled in size in less than a year, he will be a huge and unruly in another year. I try maybe once a month to see if he will let me pick him up. Never works. Is this normal and the tame savs are the exceptions?

It appears you have a real monitor, not the one portrayed on TV or in the dreams of newbies lol-keep up the good job

if there were a "like" button to click for that reply, i'd click it haha.

IMO, there is no such thing as a "tame" monitor. then again, i don't have the experience that a lot of people on these forums do. to me, a "tame" monitor is one of three things: mal-nourished, tolerant, or trusting. with mine, i try my best to gain their trust.

Sounds like a normal monitor lizard. It's the people that say they have a "dog tame" monitor that worry me, because what they are really saying is that they have an unhealthy monitor.

Good job!

I recently bought a puppy dog tame savannah!!!!! She was so relaxed and easy going, I couldn't believe it. Then I gave her a big enclosure, a basking area with 135* surface temps, a gradient down to 85*, places to hide, good food, a water tub with enough clean water to really get into into, etc..etc..etc.... Now she's kinda cranky and not very happy to see me... this always happens.
