Big Black Rat Clutch

Kevin Saunders May 23, 2012 04:20 PM

My Montgomery, NC locality girl dropped her clutch yesterday for a total of 22 eggs, all of which are good. She dumped her water and soaked her bedding recently and instead of cleaning everything out and disturbing her right before she dropped the eggs, I thought I'd try a trick I picked up from the kingsnake forum. So I just flipped a big dinner plate over the damp bedding and she set up shop under there and dropped her eggs. The pics are in sequence showing the very simple nesting area, a pic from yesterday morning, then one from yesterday evening after all the eggs were out.

That "plate trick" is really starting to catch on - I may have to give it a try.

I like how dark that Black Rat is - it's a really nice example.

Is the male that dark? Are you selling the offspring? Nice looking snake!

The male does have more pattern showing than the female, but he's still nice and dark (and monstrous-over 6.5 ft and heavy). Both are from the same locality.

Shoot me an email if you'd like to discuss potential offspring.

Nice clutch!
I still want that big girl so bad I can taste it.
Maybe we can still work something out? A short term breeding loan perhaps??
