I have arrived in Sanderson! I made it at about 8pm last night. I saw a 42 W.Diamondback and a bright red coachwhip on 2400 on the way down but I was moving to fast to stop for either. Conditions were perfect. I hunted til about 1am but saw 0 snakes.
I did run into Steve Boyd who was working his way west. Steve is one of the "original" grayband hunters - he caught his first in 1965! I met him in out here first in 1989, Steve and his friend saw a blacktail, suboc, and red coachwhip all after dark - surporising that there were no other hunters out. In the 90s there would have been 8-10 cars working. I guess it's going to take some time to get back where we were. The truck traffic on 90/285 is reaching I10 levels - insane - road crusing is definitely a thing of the past - besides being illegal it's just to damned dangerous - I am at the Desert Air on the West end of town - stop in if your out - will get some pics up after Ruby and I roam around a bit.
There are like 7 Game Wardens down at the Budget Inn - The Desert Air still has rooms available for Snake Days - and LED spot/head/flash lights are BADASS!
