A few black rat snakes seen recently...

foxturtle Jun 06, 2012 02:35 PM

I recently made a side trip to South Carolina to see if I could find some nice black rat snakes. I succeeded.

The first was this juvenile seen crossing a paved road close to midnight:

The next morning this 6 foot plus female was seen stretched out on an unpaved road:

This 4 and a half foot male was seen crossing later on that evening just after sunset:

The following morning this subadult (under 3 feet) female was seen crossing the same road as the large female from the day before:

I decided to call it quits, but not before making one last stop near the mountains and spotting this small, 3 foot female crossing an unpaved driveway:

Wow, those are all really nice!
I like Black Rat Snakes with a lot of black and not much pattern.
Those certainly are sweet.

I totally agree. Nice solid black, little to no pattern. These are all beauties.
