DONT DO IT!!!!!! Its directly into the blood stream. Clean off as good as you can with plane water. You can draw the magots out by placeing heat like from a heat lamp 60-75W bulb close to the opening FOR JUST 30 seconds at a time, then stop a few minutes and repete. This is dangerous if you do it to long. The heat or light will draw the magots out. You will see them coming out, give the tortoise a break then do it again. If you dont see them then none are there. I decovered this by just holding a light close to see better and this is what happened. It sounds crazy but works. Just use good sence and dont cook the tortoise. Check all your hatchings with a flash light. If you see others with maggotts then peel off the shell and clean them off with warm water (not to warm) You can use paper towells and make a "pocket" for them to set in without rolling over if the egg sack is big. You got to take action or the maggotts will cause all kinds of prublems. Its a big deal, write me direct for phone # GOOD LUCK. Vic
Thanks for the advise ,I soaked them in warm water and saw several worms maybe I got lucky and drew them out that way then. the babys are still alive , thank you
Good deal, When it happened here they were slow to get started eating. Some took a long time to finish absorbing the remaining yoak. Are they all out of their eggs? Its one reason I dont put holes in the egg box, even then just opening it up to look and take them out some of the "cant see'ems" got in! Very distribing to go wrong at the final moments of hatching. Lood luck to ya! Vic
