Judging from the tail markings I'd say juvi... how much of the color is resultant of powderery dust from the rocks it is residing in??? Babies often quite colorful regardless of geographical background. Was this in the "Valley Of Fire" state park area famous for the reddish rocks?
Yes, it was in valley of fire. I have seen many baby chucks. This one was about 10-11 inches in total length, so it was either a young adult or subadult.
