Other forums for Beadeds?

NorCalAl Jul 01, 2012 12:19 AM

Doesn't seem like this forum gets too many posts. Are there other forums for Beadeds that are more popular? I'm interested in learning more than just caresheet information.

Definitely considering adding Beadeds to my collection.

I know ... This place in very inactive & I have been on here for years . Mostly reading but it seems all the breeders what to keep their tricks to themselves . I had a beaded die from a brain tumor & I have papers to prove it . It wasn't the breeders fault it was just born that way . I will be looking else where & stopping in here from time to time & if I find anything then I will repost .

I got an email from a member and although I wrote him back - several times - I've never heard from him again.

I've talked to Steve Angeli and now Dr Seward - both seemed very forthcoming with information. Doc Seward in particular, since I told him I was interested in HHE. I've been very impressed with the responses I've read.

I was just hoping to chat with more owners/keepers/breeders about helo's period, but there's not much being said. Like you mentioned, a lot of folks keep their info close to the vest.

I'm thinking of starting a forum, one dedicated to the less popular species - monitors, helos and others. Lot of work if no one will come by, however.

I was thinking the same thing. I'll drop by any forum you start.

Sorry.....if no ones got anything intelligent to share here with the sheeple, I doubt it'll be different anywhere else. These aren't bearded dragons. Theres is not a whole lot of people working with them professionally. Plus theres still a lot to learn n most intelligent heloderm keepers I've met are very much still researching the art and cautious to spread misinformation.
What are you contributing here besides complaints?

Since the economy has crashed n beadeds became more affordable a lot of youngins who shouldn't own heloderms have bought them discount as impulse buys at shows.....Shame on the irresponsible keepers for selling them off like that too.....
I get tired of the same completely thoughtless ridiculous questions asked by members of this board over n over that seem about five years old. Honestly some of the dimwits here make the whole hobby look ignorant n dangerous. Why would the handful of people who truely love these animals out there want to help them?

peace

I'm sure I'm reading you wrong. It seems like you're saying that anyone getting in is a nitwit and those selling helos to new keepers are irresponsible. I'm sure I'm wrong about that.

I'd think that experienced keepers, regardless of how 'right' they might be in the long run, would want the animals, even those kept by dimwit noobs, to be kept in the best conditions possible. That's why I'd think, if you are indeed one of the experienced keepers, that you'd contribute.

I know there's a mentality that the knowledge the experienced keeper has gained and lets them breed successfully should be jealously guarded, lest others gain from your experience. That mentality is fine for someone like a racecar driver or perhaps a photographer or a sweater knitter where their income is dependent on the difference in knowledge and skillsets.

For lovers of animals, however, the knowledge, even if flawed, is something that helps increase the condition of the animals kept. Someone that wants a helo is going to get one whether experienced keepers contribute their experience to forums or not. What might differ is the circumstances those captive animals are kept in.

I've certainly seen your type of attitude before. Both chondro and monitor keepers are like helo breeders - in the infancy of their hobby. But go to morelia.com or varanus.net and the best in the hobby not only spread their knowledge, they take the time to instruct the noobs so the animals come first.

From your post here, one could gather your income has taken a dive as prices have dropped and you are angry that others have taken advantage of the situation and entered the fray. Too bad. That's how 'free markets' work. Part of the charm and all. Of course, I could be reading it all wrong.

Since you profess to care about the animals, my question is, why WOULDN'T you share your knowledge and help the hobby progress? Most top breeders fetch top prices - and share knowledge.

Very well put I couldn't have said it better myself . Some "very few " do help the newbs on here. My experience came at a hard price
, aggravation , a few deaths . My beaded's were regurgitating like crazy . I would feed them & 2 days later...out it came . I have changed the bedding, lowered temps , checked for parasites , & Finally changed their food . My beaded's & gila's cannot eat mice/rats "hairy food" . They will throw it up every time & I have done test after test . This is what I have came up with . They will eat chicken , fish "not often" , shrimp "not often" , rat pups , & pinkies "when they are babies" . I had another beaded on it's death bed " from regurgitating . I started feeding it straight shrimp & added vitamin d3 to it's water & to this day he is doing awesome . He does get different foods now days but nothing "hairy" . I have now changed his name to Goliath . Hope this will help some regurgitating probs that some of you have . I know that this will somehow turn into a feeding debate over the shrimp but it saved my beaded's life .
