Oregon law question I need help with....

wendhend Jul 01, 2012 04:09 PM

I live in Oregon, and a friend of mine told me that she thinks it is illegal to own and sell Mexican black kingsnakes (Lampropeltis getula nigrita)in Oregon. I have tried searching for it on this forum and on the internet in general.... and have found nothing. Does any one happen to know whether MBKs are okay to keep and sell in Oregon or how to find that information? I love them but don't want to do anything that is illegal. Thanks!

You would be perfectly legal in possessing any L. getula ssp besides L.g. californae, and even that restriction was relaxed years ago to allow captive bred L.g. californae. The original intent was to inable law enforcement to easily identify native species as compared to non-native.

Refer to Oregon Administrative Rules... 635-056-0060 "non-prohibited animals". Scroll down to reptiles and you'll encounter reference to Pituophis and Lampropeltis that are "morhpologically different from native species". Hope you see this 2 weeks later!
