Chocolate: Not Just for Arizona!

HighDesertHerper Jul 09, 2012 11:02 AM

Looks like its been kinda quiet in here. Since I haven't posted here in quite a few years, I thought I'd post a few pics of some of this year's finds.

Top - Desert, Barstow Road, Lucerne Valley
Middle - Desert, Highway 18, San Bernardino County
Bottom - Desert/Coastal, Coxey Truck Trail, San Bernardino County

Awesome, just awesome. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for looking.
The 2 smaller boas were actually highway rescues. The chocolate was an accidental find. Was on my way home from class at 11 pm and found him crossing the highway on the outskirts of town.

You take coxey truck trail on your way home from class ?. Nice detour!. Az does have the best chocolate/brown boas-(in the high and low des locales) but ca does have a few spots that kick out brown boas.

Did I meet you, and your son, in the Granites? If not... kinda blows me away that someone else in the Hi D goes to the same places (except the 18) that I do. All the roads you mentioned are very long rds, but lets just say I know them well enough, to know where on those roads you saw those boas. Except the chock... that's very unusual... I've only ever seen one rosy that brown from the hi-D... cept that both dorsal and lateral stripes were chock brn... not two-tone like yours. I like yours better... jim

Thanks for commenting. Definitely the prettiest brown I've seen in my neighborhood. And the kick in the a$$ is I wasn't even herping when I found it. I'll be focusing on the area for others that have the two tone stripes.
As for seeing me out on the trails, probably not. My love for herps seems to have skipped a generation. My grand daughter however has inherited my passion and goes out with me anytime her mother will let her. I'm definitely a proud grandpa

Yeah... know just what you mean... got a niece (17) who pretty much only gets to get out, when I take her.
2-tones are my fav... you can see them in the Granites, if you know where to look (BIG range)
I've seen chocs in a small set of hills, between 2 ranges. If you ever want to talk...I ain't too hard to find...lol jim
