Box Turtle Hibernation Q

keego73 Jul 16, 2012 01:01 PM

Hello all,
I'm new to the EBT world and don't know where to look for the information I need.
The education center I work at has two EBT's that have been here for some time, and have has been kept active the entire time, never hibernating. There is interest in beginning to start hibernating them, but we can't find any information on restarting hibernation after a long patch without it. One of the turtles hasn't hibernated for ~10 years. Are there concerns that we should look into? Is it a bad idea in general? Or will he be fine just hopping right back into the process?

Thanks,
Keegan

I don't think you need to hibernate it unless you wanna breed it...even then I don't think you need to hibernate them either. Below is link of a good website for you to look over. It contains a lot of good information if you wanna start hibernating your box turtles.
