Breeding Beardies

chimp54321 Jul 21, 2012 05:24 PM

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a place for me to buy adult breeders online. I have been looking around and it seems like the cheapest the regular beardies are going for is about $100. I've never kept beardies before but there seems to be a demand for them because their so easy to keep. I'm starting the researching process on these little fellas and getting excited. I was also thinking about breeding either ball's or leo's as well not really sure where to start. I haven't kept any reptiles in a while but I got an awesome place to do it now. I'm also thinking about building a nice big wall of enclosures for breeding if anyone can suggest some plan's to me that would be awesome too. Mostly I'm just posting here because I'm all excited because I haven't been able to keep reptiles in forever and am excited to get back into and this site rock's so many cool people willing to help at least it was when I used to go on it daily about 6 years ago.

Thanks

As you haven't kept reptiles in awhile, I suggest buying a young pair (under a year old) raise them up and get comfortable keeping them, then next fall, look into breeding. To buy a ready to breed pair now, means you have to do alot of homework and won't have much time to get them settled in before brumation.

Also, normal dragon's aren't going to give you much money in return, nor are they likely to be fast to sell. If you just want to breed for fun, I would recommend just breeding leopard or crested geckos, small egg yield and both are quite popular. They may have 8-10 eggs per season compared to the 20-100 eggs a healthy bearded dragon can have.
