Sulfur Motley

guyergenetics Jul 31, 2012 03:08 AM

In 2008 I bred a butter mot to a bloodred. I raised some of those snakes up. I was really after hatching a sulfur....I figured that a sulfur mot was way to much to ask for.

Last year I completely missed the odds on a sulfur.

This year, I hit the 1 in 256 odds of actually hatching a sulfur motley!!!!

That's bloodred caramel amel motley

Has anyone ever produced a sulfur mot before? I've looked around and so far, I can't see as where anyone has.

Well, I found another one that was hatched in California 5 days before mine.

So mine is not the first after all.

Out of the same clutch I produced this fire motley that is 66% het caramel.

You'd better believe that I'm praying to the odds gods that she's het caramel!!

We'll see in a couple of years.

You know, in 2008 I bred a butter mot to a bloodred in hopes of some day producing sulfurs.

Just asking for a sulfur mot just seemed like way too much to ask for. I figured that I would have to get some animals that where homozygous for 3 genes and 66% het for the fourth and breed them together in another generation to even have any kind of a chance to hit those odds.

This was quite a shocker!!!!

I kind of feel like I've burned up my luck for this season. I can't ask....or even hope that this female fire mot is het caramel.

But it'd be nice.

She was the very last egg to hatch. Before I saw her I figured that i would breed that male sulfur mot to butter mots and gold dust mots to produce 3 gene animals het bloodred and then go after the 1 in 4 odds in another generation. BUT if she is het caramel, then I can produce sulfur mots in one generation instead of two. And with 1 in 2 odds.

That's a lot to ask for or hope for.

Hitting the extreme 1 in 256 odds on this snake changes everything for me.

Here's a couple more images taken by my friend Chris Jaekel of this QUAD GENE HOMOZYGOUS RECESSIVE sulfur motley corn snake that I hatched out, one of only two sulfur motleys that I know of in existence.

Thanks Doug!

You can not imagine how surprised I was to see this baby when I opened that egg box.

I was just after sulfurs.

I figured that I was at least one more generation away from hitting on a sulfur mot.

But hey, I'll take it!!!

I'm like still all wrapped up in the excitement of it. This is a once in a lifetime hatch. I will probably never hit on those kind of odds again.
