Gila regurgitated

spider916 Aug 03, 2012 08:41 PM

What would cause this. He has eaten just fine and is 8 months old. His temps are 90-92 on hot side. His hide is 85. The lizard itself temps out at 83.9. Has been eating 2-3 mouse fuzzies once a week. Could he have just been full. He ate 3 on wednesday but threw them up today( Friday) late in the afternoon. Would it be better for him to be fed smaller meals spaced over the week verses on larger meal once a week. Thanks for advise.

Your keeping them too hot.. Although gilas are from desert regions, they spend most of their life under ground in cooler temps.. I keep mine in the mid 70's with a under cage heat pad under one small portion of the cage set at 85.. I had the same problem with regurge when my reptile room got too hot!

Getting them too hot is one factor that will cause them to regurge but not always. Some just puke n I dont care what any quack cries otherwise. I think its like some other animals puke hair n bones back up personally.......sue me....

Got about thirty these lizards I've raised from hatchlings or hatched....I've had a couple lizards that are parasite free with really weak stomachs....I've lowered temps, smaller meals ,less stress ya name it n they still puke once in a while....most out grew it n this is a fact....Every chronic puker I've had was a girl eventually too males are tanks n got wild Gi systems....
.....I got two lizards that puke once in a while n eat a lot less than average even though they are parasite free n healthy....they are just small animals n grow slower.....imho I dont think most gilas eat as solid of meals near as often as in captivity. I've noticed they have insane stomach acids too. How otherwise can a lizard vomit up a pile of hair n bones 48 hous after it eats......I dont wait a week after one these lizards pukes either but I noticed they very rarely puke twice in a row either.....hmmmmnnnn just my opinion though, I respect anyone elses too.

Thanks for the replies. I dropped the temps 5 degrees and all is well. I Aldo went to a slightly smaller meal. So far no more regurge. I have kept an eye on its weight and it seem to be gaining. I think all is well.
