Corn shedding question. Is this too much

MissHisssss Aug 06, 2012 04:29 PM

My neice bought an adult corn snake from a snake show in NC in July. They said she had laid eggs. She was in shed. She shed, and now just a few weeks later she is in shed again. Is this normal?

Well, how many weeks is a few weeks? Is she eating large meals? They shed as they grow, so if they are fed a lot they can shed more often. Having said that sometimes they shed repeatedly if they have an ailment like a skin problem. It's their way of trying to heal. But can you give a guess at how many weeks between sheds?

Disclaimer: I do keep several snakes in pairs, and some in groups. However I realize that things can go wrong, and I have to keep a close eye on those groups, to be sure they are not being adversely affected by these living conditions. Also if one happens to eat it's cagemate, it is 100% my fault, and I know the risks in advance!

A couple means two and a few weeks usually means three. They got the snake mid July and I wrote this post on August 6. So it would be three. It didn't sound like they were feeding it alot at first because the guy at the pet shop were giving them fuzzies when she should have been fed larger ones.

It's very hard to know if something is wrong, but if the snake is feeding, and doing ok, then just keep an eye on it. I would keep a log of her sheds, also. It may change, and become more normal. I think three weeks is a bit soon, but who knows what's going on?
