Opinion on Eggs

allensheehan Aug 07, 2012 10:13 PM

Ok so these eggs are at 58 days and are due to hatch on Friday give or take a few days. Anyway over the last few days a few of them have developed yellow or dark spots on them. And a few others have slight bulges on them that appear to be what I would call stretch marks. Has anyone ever come accross this? If so what was the outcome. I hope the pictures are clear enough to see what I am referring to

Thanks for any feedback

Allen

Hi Allen. Yes, I have seen those same things many times before. The yellow and dark discoloration is pretty normal to see, especially when they are covered with sphagnum moss. Those look to be fine since they are that far along and should be hatching any day now. The stretches and buldges are from them absorbing a bit too much moisture, but it looks to be okay to me as well.

Look forward to seeing what comes out of them!..

Thanks Doug,
Thanks Doug. I feel better now. Its funny cause I am not even sure if I would have noticed those issues before. However this clutch is important to me so I am sweating the details. I am realy excited to see this clutch hatch.

They look fine to me. I've had eggs look much worse and still hatch out awesome little babies.

Being that it's so close to the hatch date i don't think it will matter, but in the future if you see the buldges and stretch marks, try lowering the humidity just a little. I seem to get that issue a lot around the midway point of incubation so i just remove the lid of my tubs for an hour or so each day until the eggs start go back to normal.

Hey Allen,

A few of my Texas rat eggs looked like those too and they are hatching as I type this!
