Miniature Corn Snake?

captainjack0000 Aug 11, 2012 07:34 PM

I see from time to time posts about the biggest and heaviest corn snake, and everybody says that their snake is 6ft, or about as long as Bubble Tape (remember that stuff).

What about the opposite direction? What is the smallest, but still full grown/mature (2.5-3yrs or older) corn snake? Anybody think they have a record holder?

Any morphs known to be smaller than average?

Like most reptiles, Corn Snakes never stop growing. They just get to a point where their growth becomes so slow that it's barely noticeable. So you will never have a record for the world's smallest Corn Snake, or any specific species of reptile.

The six foot record Corn Snake was a wild-caught example. Morphs tend to have an overall smaller average size than wild types. Though it's useful to keep in mind that Corn Snakes have a wide range and within that range are populations with characteristics.

One of those characterstics can be a smaller than average size. Miami Corns and Keys Corns are examples of this. This 2010 male Alabama Corn from wild-caught parents is only 30 inches long.

Yeah, there will never be a record and they never stop growing. interesting creatures they are.

I only asked the question in the manner that I did to avoid pictures of newly hatched baby snakes. If I just ask to see the smallest corns, I feared I'd get bunch of pictures of people new pets. I want to see some tiny adult corns.

Thanks for the pic, he looks awesome.

this is a 2002 snow that is probably only 34 or 35 inches...she just won't eat anything larger then a medium mouse...anything bigger and she'll refuse it...sorry nothing for scale

I have a female Miami Phase that despite being 12 years old and eating very well, is only abour 33-34" long.

At 3 years old she bred and laid a perfect clutch of 14 eggs then a 2nd clutch of 9 eggs at 27-28" long. All eggs from both clutches hatched with healthy babies.

She was pencil thin after the 2nd clutch and I just knew she wasn't going to make it, but she bounced back and went on to produce about 9 clutches over the years.

I quit breeding her several years ago and now she's strictly a pet living the good life in a cage with twice as much room as she needs with lots of climbing branches.
