i have recently been told that it is illegal to sell venomous reptiles in nc to other nc residents. i have contacted wildlife about this and they have not given me a straight answer on the subject. i have also contacted andrew wyatt of USARK about the subject as well and he told me it was legal to do so. i would like to get more info on this topic and possibly a couple second opinions just to be safe. also if it is indeed illegal to do so could someone please show me where it is written in law. thanks for your time

To my knowledge it is only illegal to sell in public. Private sales and over the internet are legal. Part of why we don't have hot shows, but still legal to keep. You may find a venomous breeder in the classifieds from NC right here on KS. Laws here are very easy to comply with regarding what few reptiles are listed.

do you happen to know where i can find this actually written into law?

You have to read through the crossed out sections from where the law has changed and terminology has been updated from things like "poisonous" to venomous. As far as I can tell you it doesn't say anything about private or internet sales. There are well known venomous dealers and breeders in NC who are still doing business this way. Pet stores can display venomous (not sure if it is restricted to indigenous species) but cannot sell them.

Here's where it's written in law. This would be a final draft of regulations promulgated in 2009.

Venomous snakes are not illegal to posses, barter or sell in North Carolina. The catch is, you cannot transfer or sell one to someone else unless you also sell the locked enclosure with it. Deli cups or snake bags automatically break the law. This is why you don't see venomous sales at reptile expos.
