Corn snake breeding (What do you think)?

stephen85 Aug 16, 2012 01:39 PM

How many females can I breed with one male corn snake per season? Thanks

No precise one answer to that, but MANY!

They males usually always switch sides with each successive copulation, staggering the use of each hemipenis. This is also something that MANY people aren't even aware of. Make sure the enclosure has a cooler side in the mid to high 70's and a warmer side around the mid 80's for proper digestion (if the males even want to eat at this time that is). Temps that are too warm can kill male's sperm.

A whole whole lot!

About 12 years ago I had a male snow corn breed with 4 females over the course of about 6 hours (without me even knowing it) and all 4 females laid good clutches.

I brought in some of my snakes for a small snake educational show a local nature center was putting on. I had my male snow, and a female normal, amel, anery, and great plains rat all in a cage together to show off some of the color options. that was the only time the females were with a male the entire year. what makes it crazier is that i was a few feet away all day and constantly pulling snakes out for people to hold and never noticed them breeding.

Thanks, what do you think is the smallest size tub you can use for adult corns? I’m building a rack system.

Smallest, probably a blanket box (28qt.) I prefer to give them more space and more of a temp gradient so CB-70's.
