Question about blue phase greens

Really Sep 03, 2012 10:37 AM

So, I'd always heard if the blue was still blue by a year old it would stay blue. Today someone challenged me on Tazumal again, saying that he would turn green at sexual maturity and that I won't know for 2-5 years if he's going to turn. Has anyone heard anything like that before?

Tazumal is approximately 18 months old, 8 1/4 inches SVL and 27 1/4 inches STL.

These will stay blue!!! The other person don't know what he/she is talking about and living in the past. I have about 35 of these and if they were not "genetic blue", they would have turned green long time ago. I have seen the ones that came in as blue and turned green within a year, and these look different even as babies.

Looks like I may have to get one, too. [chuckling]

Ty is correct. I was one of the ones that originally questioned whether they were genetic blues or not. That was because there were few of these around before. I can tell you that yours will remain blue. The only thing that may change is that the color may darken or change a little as it matures, but you will be able to tell it apart from regular greens.

I am still waiting to see an adult. And I'm not talking about the sub-adult pictures floating around. I mean a big 5-6' footer. Also, curious to see a male in breeding season.

Thanks Everyone,

Here are a couple of new pics. I do notice his color changes from lighter to darker.
